Inspiring Teachers: An Engineer Who Teaches

Students often need inspiration to consider challenging fields like engineering. Fortunately, a local high school in the San Dieguito High School District had an inspiring engineering and electronics teacher, Anthony, “Tony” Mauro. Tony Mauro began his career as an engineer for Qualcomm, where he worked for 20 years and his work resulted in over 20 patents.

Tony earned his Bachelor and Master degrees at California State Poly, Pomona.

In this interview, student Theo Loke sat down with Tony to discuss his career and his inspiration to transition from engineer to educator.

One of Tony’s inspirations to teach came from his experience at Qualcomm trying to hired quality engineers. He recalls, “[W]e tried to hire engineers into Qualcomm but couldn’t find qualified engineers.
